Western parts to see poor air quality over next 3 days

TAIPEI--The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said yesterday air quality in the western part of Taiwan and on offshore islands would be between poor and average over the next three days and suggested that people take precautions when going outside.
The EPA said that according to monitoring data on air quality, there will be relatively high concentrations of suspended particulates and ozone pollutants in western Taiwan through Monday, but the air quality in eastern Taiwan will be good.
The air quality in southwestern Taiwan could turn poor in the afternoon because of rising concentrations of ozone pollutants due to poor diffusion, the EPA said.
That was the case Saturday afternoon when the pollution standard index in the two southernmost regions in western Taiwan — Pingtung County and Kaohsiung — reached alert levels.
