Apple Daily HQ struck by daylight arson attack

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Apple Daily's Neihu-based headquarters was struck with an arson attack yesterday afternoon, according to reports.

At about 2 p.m., a man reportedly made his way into the building's underground parking garage, poured and ignited gasoline on the ground adjacent to a parked car before fleeing the scene. No reports of casualties have emerged since the incident.

Apple Daily stated that the act may have been committed in reprisal by a man implicated the newspaper's report of an alleged scam. The report suggested that the man had swindled NT$2 million from women in a romance scam. The newspaper stated that it stands by its report.
