Taiwan's exchanges with world shown in exhibit

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A photo exhibition that tells the stories of Taiwan's citizens in the country's diplomatic allies opened Saturday, with organizers saying they hope the display can promote understanding between different cultures.

The exhibition at Taipei's Bopiliao Old Street features 50 photos taken by Taiwanese volunteers, technicians and military servicemen during their stays abroad to boost awareness among the public of other countries, the International Cooperation and Development Fund said.

The exhibition, called "Your Destination, My Homeland," also aims to promote Taiwan's foreign aid endeavors in countries such as Haiti, Swaziland and El Salvador, the fund said.

Christian Huang, whose picture shows the colorful cinder block houses of Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, said he learned that it is important to lend a helping hand to those in need regardless of when or where.

The exhibition will run until Dec. 1.
