The alliance launched by the Industrial Technology Research Institute, Chunghwa Telecom and the Institute for Information Industry will pool resources from telecommunications network operators, system integrators, software developers, network equipment manufacturers and chip designers.
The alliance is calling on major high tech firms such as MediaTek, Realtek, D-Link, Accton and Proscend Communications, Inc. to join the partnership.
SDN technology has been adopted by Internet giants including Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft because of its flexibility in the allocations of bandwidth.
This makes SDN a major highlight in the application of fourth-generation broadband networks and cloud computing.
According to a forecast by International Data Corp., the global value of the SDN market will grow to US$3.7 billion by 2016.
