The day-long forum, now in its 19th year, will discuss how Internet of Things (IoT) technology will lead the information technology industry and how technologies of micro-electromechanical systems and LEDs will push the semiconductor industry forward, Gartner Inc. said in a statement.
IoT is defined as a world that links physical objects to virtual data and environments, which interact with each other in real time and thus can lead to “smart” living, the company said, adding that mobile devices will play an important role in it.
The transition from personal computer- to mobile device-driven chip demand has significantly impacted the semiconductor sector, Gartner said, adding that the event will also cover industry challenges and opportunities.
Taiwan predicts that the production value of its integrated circuit sector could hit a record high in 2013 based on the country's strong competitive edge in the global market.
The government estimates that the sector's production value will grow to some NT$1.75 trillion (US$58.81 billion) in 2013, representing a 9.3 percent increase from NT$1.6 trillion in 2012, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
