The Taiwan Religious Groups Caring Family Alliance stepped out yesterday to canvass for signatures for a petition against same-sex marriage.
Chang Chuan-feng (張全鋒), the vice president of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, said that advocates for legalizing same-sex marriage are part of an international movement toward sexual liberation and promiscuity.
“Traditional morality will disappear after the proposal to legalize same-sex marriage is passed by legislators,” Chang said.
“Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Yu Mei-nu (尤美女) proposed an amendment to the civil code to legalize same-sex marriage, while the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights is fighting for family diversity,” Chang said. “But once same-sex marriage is legalized, there will be more and more homosexual people.”
“In the future, children will receive an education that teaches them homosexuality is fine, which will bring severe consequences.”
Chang said that if the amendment is passed, it will lead to the legalization of adultery and incest, as well as promote promiscuity.
The Mandarin word for “comrade” can also be used in Taiwan to refer to a homosexual person, but Chang criticized this usage.
“Homosexual people can call themselves comrades, but we have to refer to them as homosexual people.”
A dharma master said that traditional moral standards have ensured the stability of Chinese society for thousands of years, and that a few sexually liberated people should not be allowed to weaken this foundation.
Taiwan Lutheran Church pastor Chen Chih-hung (陳志宏) said that monogamy is the form of marriage best suited for society, and that legalizing same-sex marriage would be tantamount to encouraging more people to become homosexual, in turn destroying the foundation of monogamy.
