Taiwan grabs bronze at junior world boxing event
CNATAIPEI -- Taiwan's Jan Chun-hsien won the bronze medal in the 52-kg category of the 2013 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, becoming the only Taiwanese boxer to win a medal at the competition in Kiev, Ukraine.

Jan, 16, lost to his opponent Ruslan Zubachuk of Ukraine in the semifinals Saturday (Ukraine time), to tie for third place.
Jan, a student at Cheng Te High School in Hsinchu City, made it to the semifinals by beating Gokhan Karamusaoglu of Turkey, Edvardas Strelciunas of Lithuania and Gudrat Guliyev of Azerbaijan.
“It was not easy” for Jan to beat these fighters to win the bronze medal, said Kuo Chih-lai, head of the Taipei City Sports Association Boxing Association.
A total of 351 boxers from 52 countries were officially registered at this year's Sept. 7-15 competition, according to the organizers.
Other Taiwanese boxers participating in the competition were Tu Po-wei in the 44-46-kg category, Lin Wei-sheng in the 48-kg category, Sung Wei-chieh in the 50-kg category, Huang Chi-wei in the 54-kg category and Liao Yu-hsiang in the 57-kg category.
