Wrestling regains Olympic status for 2020, 2024 games
CNABUENOS AIRES -- Wrestling will be making a comeback to the Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Sunday selected it to be the “additional sport” for the 2020 and 2024 games.

The ancient sport garnered a simple majority with 49 out of 95 valid votes in the first round, beating out the 24 votes for reinstating baseball-softball and the 22 in favor of squash.
The IOC cut wrestling from the list of core Olympic sports in February of this year, prompting soul searching among wrestling authorities who strived to restructure the way the sport is run.
Reinstating wrestling is the second of three major decisions for the 125th IOC Session, following Tokyo's Saturday win of its bid for the 2020 Summer Games.
There is still much anticipation ahead of the session's climax on Sept. 10, when IOC members will choose their new leader.
