Baseball/softball rejected from Olympics before '24
CNABUENOS AIRES -- The hopes of having baseball and softball relisted as an Olympic sport in the next decade 2024 were dashed Sunday as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose to add wrestling to the Olympic Games in 2020 and 2024.

Wrestling won 49 out of a total of 95 ballots in just one round of voting by IOC members. Baseball and softball as a single sport won 24 votes and squash 22.
Men's baseball and women's softball were last played at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. They were voted off the list of core sports starting with the 2012 London Olympics at the IOC session in 2005.
Some have speculated that the choice of Tokyo as the host city for the 2020 Summer Olympics could help baseball's chances because of the popularity of the sport in Japan.
