UMC is now Taiwan's first foundry operator to be certified under the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) system, the company said, in a move that echoes the government's push to strengthen local exporters' supply chain management.
The AEO system aims to reinforce cooperation between customs administrations and those with the private sector.
Taiwan began applying the supply chain security standards of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 2009 to facilitate and speed up the movements of goods in the global market.
The AEO is built on the WCO Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade, introduced in 2005, and aims to assist customs administrations across the world to meet new challenges, including those posed by terrorism.
