The Red Dot Design Museum Taipei will be the third of its kind in the world, the others being in Germany and Singapore, said Peter Zec, initiator and chief executive officer of Red Dot, at a press briefing in Taipei.
Choosing Taipei as the location for the third museum was a “logical step” in light of the fact that Taiwan and Germany began design exchanges a long time ago, Zec said.
He said Red Dot and the predecessor to the Taiwan Design Center began productive discussions as far back as 1993.
The museum will be a new landmark in Taiwan's capital and will help to inspire the economy and society, while building more friendly partnerships between Taiwan and Germany, Zec said.
The museum will be housed in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, a historical site on which the Songshan Tobacco Factory once stood.
