The DEP said in 2012 Typhoon Tembin had stroked Taitung and destroyed over 3,000 books in the Taiyuan Book House — a private library. In light of the insufficient books for local children, the book house sent a letter to the Taipei DEP for assistance.
The DEP said it had collected over 1,000 books and nearly 3,000 supplies of stationery, noting that these were all donated by Taipei citizens and students from 62 elementary schools in Taipei.
Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) who attended the donation ceremony at Taipei City Hall yesterday said the donations showed that Taipei City concerns about those in need from another cities and the city is willing to spread its love.
The Taipei City Government offered recycled-wooden made pens to those 62 elementary schools as a gesture to appreciate their help to the Taiyuan Book House.
