Kaohsiung Mayor Chen chu presented the official flag of the APCS to the team members at an announcement ceremony and encouraged the volunteers, the majority of whom are young students who speak foreign languages, to show the friendliness of the city to the international guests.
The volunteers are the most powerful strength of the city, Chen said, noting that around 5,000 were recruited to help out at the 2009 World Games, which was also held in Kaohsiung.
Chen said she has spent around 18 months inviting city mayors from around the region to take part in the APCS.
