Ministry of the Interior statistics show that New Taipei is the most populous city, with a population of 3.95 million. It is followed by Kaohsiung (2.78 million), Taichung (2.7 million), Taipei (2.68 million), Taoyuan County (2.04 million) and Tainan (1.88 million).
The total population registered an annual growth rate of 0.145 percent, slightly lower than the 0.187 percent growth of the previous year, the agency said, attributing the drop to a decline in the number of newborns.
The statistics also indicate a declining ratio of males to females. The ratio stood at 100.09 men for every 100 women at the end of July, compared with 100.38 to 100 recorded the previous year, according to the data.
