“My goal this year is not just getting the Rockets into the playoffs but getting my team to win the championship,” he said at a press conference in Taipei.
Lin said Howard “makes us a much better team,” adding that if the team practices hard, “we have a chance to win the championship.”
“The all-star center will strengthen the team's defense and get more rebounds ... We can cooperate pretty well as he is good at pick and roll,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Lin said he will strengthen his defense and improve his 3-pointer accuracy to 40 percent. Being right-handed, he will also work on dribbling and laying up shots from the left side.
Admitting that his performance during the 82 games over the whole past season was not good, he said he is more motivated and hopes to play better this coming season.
Compared with playing for the New York Knicks, the 24-year-old said that he has more time “off the ball” when playing for the Rockets, and that he will learn how to cooperate with James Harden.
Lin arrived in Taiwan earlier Wednesday at the start of an eight-day visit and was greeted by enthusiastic fans at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
During his visit, Lin will attend charity and endorsement events arranged by his sponsors and take part in an evangelical gathering Aug. 18.
The Harvard graduate and his friend, Rockets forward Chandler Parsons, will also co-host a basketball camp for Taiwanese high school and college students Aug. 18-20.
He is scheduled to leave Taiwan for China Aug. 21.
Howard is scheduled to arrive in Taipei Aug. 19 for a three-day visit to promote limited edition of Howard-autographed athletic shoes.
Taiwan is the second stop of Howard's Asian trip, which will also take him to three Chinese cities — Hangzhou, Chengdu and Beijing.
It was not known if Howard will meet with Lin during his stay in Taiwan.
