Unlike in previous editions, this year's exhibition is no longer set at a single place in Northern Taiwan; instead, activities are being arranged around the island to let more people partake in the food fun, the bureau said.
A total of 75 restaurants are featured in a program promoting 27 routes in 13 national scenic parks, the bureau said. Tourists dining at these restaurants will receive a NT$200 coupon for spending NT$2,000 or more.
The Taiwanese dining experience can also be enjoyed at 46 participating hotels, whose restaurants will offer discounts of up to 12 percent for diners.
To encourage voting for their favorite restaurants, voters may receive dining coupons totaling NT$100,000 every week in lucky draws running from Aug. 1 to 31, the bureau said, adding that there are also other prizes worth a total of NT$150,000.
The bureau has also announced the results of voting conducted at 10 of Taiwan's major night markets in July to identify the most loved snack. The oyster omelet emerged as the winner, the bureau said.
In September, the bureau is going to arrange competitions between chefs from different hotels and restaurants.
There will be a contest to pick the restaurant offering the best meals for tour groups. Participating restaurants have to prepare menus priced at NT$2,500 per table, and the winner will be announced in November.
A press event featuring eight of Taiwan's celebrity chefs was held on Aug. 5 to kick off this year's Taiwan Culinary Exhibition.
