The Agricultural Department of New Taipei said that July, August and September are the best time to grow green bamboo roots, adding that in light of promoting the seasonal product, the city government has introduced day-tour packages which include three different travel routes for tourists.
The department said the three routes run through Bali in Tamsui District, Shifen in Pingxi District, and Shihsanhan Site in Tamsui, adding that the day-tour packages include walking on mountainous trails as well as digging out bamboo roots and peeling them.
An Agricultural Department official said the Bali day-tour package includes dining in a restaurant owned by the family of Jason Wu, the famous Taiwan-born American designer. The official added that the restaurant offers a bamboo-root set menu, which contains sausages, spring rolls, soup and a drink — all of which are made of bamboo roots.
The official said tourists will not only taste the freshness of bamboo roots but they will also experience local cuisine and stunning views of Buddha Mountain.
The city government said that apart from green bamboo roots, yam and common yam rhizome are also famous New Taipei City products, noting that the government will introduce various day-tour packages for the other two products in following seasons.
