High-speed railway safe despite ground subsidenceCNA TAIPEI--Ground subsidence problems along Taiwan's high-speed rail lessened in three spots in Yunlin County but worsened in Changhua County last year, although the system remains safe, according to data released yesterday.
March 16, 2013, 12:06 am TWN In 2012, the under construction Huwei Station in Yunlin County sank 3.9 cm, compared with 4.6 cm the previous year, according to the latest report released by the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. The ground in the vicinity of the county's Tuku Township and provincial highway No. 78 sank 4.8 cm, down from the 7.3 cm recorded in 2011, while an area along county highway No. 158 in the same county sank 4.4 cm, compared with 5.5 cm in 2011, the report said.
