Dean's girlfriend allegedly assisted his escape: prosecutors

Dean, an ethnic Indian holding a British passport, fled Taiwan on Aug. 14, 2012, by using the passport of a friend, identified only as David, a Caucasian man of different height and about 10 years younger, the prosecutor said.

Taipei prosecutors said that while questioning David, they discovered that Tung allegedly put make-up on Dean's face to change his skin color and allegedly taught him how to smile like David.

The officials said that Tung rehearsed the escape plan with Dean and accompanied him to a travel agency to book the flight ticket.

The prosecutors said David is Dean's employee who owed Dean NT$50,000, adding that Dean allegedly told David that if he helped him with his escape, Dean would give David his SUV and a NT$45,000 lump sum to settle David's debt.

The reward also included Dean's road bike and a grille rack, the prosecutors said.

According to the prosecutors, Tung fulfilled Dean's promise to David by giving him money and ceded Dean's SUV to David's friend.

Official said, however, that Tung denied involvement in the aforementioned acts.

The prosecutors said that to support David's testimony, they have reviewed footage of surveillance cameras and Tung's phone records, as well as questioned witnesses of the travel agency.

The TDPC has charged Dean, Tung and David with forgery and concealment, and crimes under the Immigration Act, prosecutors said.
