Taiwan rises to 33rd in travel competitiveness

Taiwan ranked seventh in the Asia-Pacific region, behind countries including Singapore in first position, Japan (4th), Hong Kong (5th) and South Korea (6th), but ahead of Thailand (9th) and China (10th), according to the WEF's “Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013.”

Of the 14 categories upon which the evaluations were based, Taiwan performed particularly well in terms of policy rules and regulations, in which it ranked 5th out of the 140 economies surveyed.

It also received relatively high ratings in its information and communications technology infrastructure, safety and security, ground transportation infrastructure, as well as education and training, all of which ranked among the top 20 in the world.

Singapore was the only Asian country to make the top 10 in the world, benefiting from its policy environment, transport infrastructure and safety.

Switzerland was ranked as the world's most competitive in travel and tourism, followed by Germany, Austria, Spain and the United Kingdom.
