Fugitive Dean owes victim's family NT$7.5 mil.: courtBy Linger Liu, The China Post TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taipei District Court (TDC) yesterday ruled that Zain Taj Dean, who was convicted of killing newspaper delivery man Huang Chun-teh while drunk driving, must compensate Huang's family NT$7.55 million.
February 28, 2013, 12:01 am TWN The British criminal was sentenced by the Taiwan High Court to four years in jail, said the TDC. On Aug. 14 last year, Dean escaped from Taiwan by using the passport of a Caucasian friend in Taiwan to avoid serving his sentence. Dean is of Indian descent. The TDC said Huang's parents are over both 60 years old and Huang was the bread winner of the family. Dean did not take any responsibility for his actions, thus the court ruled that he should pay NT$7.55 million in compensation. The case can still be appealed to a higher court, said the TDC.
