Legislature ranks second in performance in AsiaCNA TAIPEI--Taiwan's legislature was ranked second in a recent report on Asian parliaments' performance, with Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng saying yesterday that the ranking “made sense”because of the lawmaking body's efficiency.
February 22, 2013, 12:03 am TWN According to the report released by the Hong Kong-based Politicaland Economic Risk Consultancy, Ltd., Taiwan's Legislative Yuan came insecond among its counterparts in 12 Asian countries, behind only that of South Korea. Wang said although there are disputes and disagreements amongTaiwan's lawmakers, there is order in the chaos and the legislators review many bills, adding that the lawmaking body is of great efficiency and improved quality. More than 70 legislators in Taiwan's 113 seat legislature have master's degrees and their relatively high level of education drives improvement in the lawmaking body, he said.
