Cloud Gate troupe to hold show with Georgian choirCNA TAIPEI--The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, one of Taiwan's most prestigious artistic groups, said Tuesday that it is thrilled to perform its renowned work “Songs of the Wanderers” with the Georgian ensemble that recorded the original score.
February 20, 2013, 12:02 am TWN Cloud Gate Founder Lin Hwai-min said that through partnering with real-life vocalists, audiences will be better able to comprehend his art, which made its debut in 1994, although only with recorded music by the choir. “A soundtrack does not breathe like real performers do,” said Lin, who choreographed the dance that has won worldwide acclaim. Inspired by a wealth of religious practices and Siddhartha, a novel by Nobel Prize in literature winner Hermann Hesse, Lin's work transforms ancient rites into dance. Meanwhile, the Ensemble Rustavi of Georgia said it is anxious to work with Cloud Gate in Taiwan for the first time, describing Lin as one of the choir's “most significant discoveries.” “Lin is a great choreographer,” said Anzor Erkomaishvili, founder of the choir that has visited more than 70 countries presenting some 5,000 concerts since 1968.
