CWB sees rapid weather changes in store for CNY

TAIPEI--Taiwan could see unstable weather patterns during the coming week when the country takes a break to celebrate the Chinese New Year (CNY), the Central Weather Bureau said Friday.

Starting Saturday on Lunar New Year's Eve, seasonal winds will keep the daily low at 15 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country, with rainfall likely in northern Taiwan, the bureau predicted.

The cool weather should persist until early Tuesday, when it will be replaced by higher temperatures and clearer skies, the bureau said.

The respite will be short-lived, however, as another cold front should push the mercury lower again on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 14 to 18 degrees in northern Taiwan and 16 to 26 degrees in South Taiwan.

It will not be until later Thursday when temperatures rebound, the bureau said.
