Kenting, Cingjing Farm top list of CNY escapes
The China Post news staffTAIPEI, Taiwan -- Natural and spacious tourist spots like Kenting National Park (墾丁國家公園) in the south, Cingjing Farm (清境農場) in Central Taiwan and Yangmingshan outside Taipei are among the top picks by domestic travelers for upcoming the Lunar New Year holidays.

Popular destinations like Alishan (Mt. Ali) in Chiayi, Sun Moon Lake in central Nantou and Taroko Gorge in eastern Hualien were this year excluded from the top 10 list, which was complied from a survey conducted by the Taipei-based Commerce Development Research Institute (CDRI).
Researchers explained that one of the main reason is local travelers plan to shun the anticipated throngs of tourists from mainland China and other areas like Hong Kong and Singapore, who will include these attractions in their travel plans.
In order to avoid traffic congestion, Taiwan residents planning to travel within the country have put Kenting, the most popular beach resort in Taiwan, at the top of their travel plans.
Many holidaymakers like to embrace the warm tropical weather in Kenting in Southern Taiwan during the winter as weather forecasters predict cold and wet conditions for other parts of the island in coming days.
The public transportation networks in Southern Taiwan are expected to face tough challenges as more people flock to major tourist attractions during the holiday.
Researchers advised travelers to map out their routes and prepare adequate provisions, including warmer clothes, to cope with possible delays and changes in weather conditions, especially during the night.
Cingjing Farm in central Nantou County is local residents' second most favorite New Year tour destination. Women especially like the serene farm that covers a vast area of 364 hectares with sheep grazing on the sprawling evergreen grasslands.
Yangmingshan (Mt. Sunshine) in Taipei ranks third most popular mainly because of the ease with which it can be visited.
Love River of southern Kaohsiung City is fourth thanks to its popularity among senior citizens.
The other six favorite travel destinations on the top 10 list are, in order, Xiziwan (Western Bay) of Kaohsiung, Zhibeng Hot Spring area of southeastern Taitung County, the Eastern Coast, Bali of Tamsui District of New Taipei City, Chigu salt farm in southern Tainan City, and Ruifang Jinguashi and Jiufeng scenic districts of New Taipei City.
Among theme and amusement parks, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) in Pingtung, the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village at Yuchi Town of Nantou, and the Jianfusun Fancyworld Theme Park in Yunlin take the first three spots of the top 10 list.
These popular recreational parks for families with children are followed, in order, by Sanlinxi (Mountain Forest Creek) Ecological and Forest Resort in Nantou, Little Kenting Resort in Kaohsiung, the Yehliu Ocean World in New Taipei City, the Leofoo Village Theme Park in Hsinchu, the Farglory Ocean World in Hualien, the Tungshi Forest Resort in Taichung and the miniature Window on China in Taoyuan.
