Ma views 'Go Grandriders' with 100 senior citizens

TAIPEI--President Ma Ying-jeou said Sunday that taking care of senior citizens is "taking care of our own futures" and called upon the public to pay more attention to the elderly.

Ma made the remark when he watched the Taiwanese box office hit "Go Grandriders" with 100 senior citizens from around Taiwan at the Presidential Office.

The 90-minute film, directed by Hua Tien-hau, is based on the true story of 17 people, with an average age of 81, who decided to embark on a journey around the island by motorcycle five years ago to fulfill their dream of seeing every part of Taiwan.

After watching the film, Ma said he believes that where there's a will, there's a way and that he was especially touched by stories told in the documentary by the old people during their journey.

The film gained widespread popularity when it hit local theaters late last year, he noted, adding that none of the 17 riders had imagined that they could bring themselves and others a completely different possibility.
