TAIPEI--Taiwan suffered its third loss Saturday in the first round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group tournament, putting it out of contention for advancing to the next level.
Lee Hsin-han and Peng Hsien-yi were defeated by Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione 6-7 (6-8), 4-6, 2-6 in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan.
A day earlier, Hewitt beat Yang Tsung-hua 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets in the singles, while his compatriot Matthew Ebden defeated Chen Ti 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 at the Yang Ming Tennis Center.
