Cabinet to resign en masse on Feb. 7: spokeswoman

Chen is expected to submit the resignation during a Cabinet meeting that day, government sources said.

After President Ma Ying-jeou approves Chen's resignation, he will formally appoint Vice Premier Jiang Yi-huah as the new premier, the sources said.

The Cabinet handover procedures are expected to take place after the Lunar New Year holiday in early February, the sources added.

Chen said a day earlier that he was resigning for health reasons, a day after government sources disclosed that Jiang has been tipped to replace Chen, with Transportation Minister Mao Chih-kuo to succeed Jiang as the new vice premier, in the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle.

Jiang is said to have earned high appreciation from Ma for his work on promoting pension reforms over the past several months and to be very familiar with Ma's policies after having served in the Cabinet for five years.
