Taoyuan airport ranked 10th globally: Mao

ACI is a nonprofit global trade organization of the world's airports. It primarily represents member airports' interests and promotes professional standards in airport management and operations.

The CEO of the airport, Yeh Kuang-shih (葉匡時), who is also an MOTC deputy minister, said that he applauds the airport's staff for their hard work to reach the goal he set to bring the airport back inside the top 10.

The MOTC invested NT$3 billion to improve and remodel the first terminal of the airport while it was still in operation over the last two years.

According to the MOTC, construction at the first terminal caused inconvenience to travelers, which was why the airport has not recently received good rankings.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was ranked number 14 in 2007, a ranking which declined to 29th in 2009.

Annual Tourist Goal Set

The Tourism Bureau under the MOTC estimated that 7.7 million tourists will visit Taiwan this year.

According to the bureau, about 7.2 million tourists visited Taiwan last year, setting a new record. The estimated profit from the tourists last year was around NT$340 billion.

The bureau said that the goal this year is to promote Taiwan tourism to travelers from Indonesia, India, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, and to increase the ease of travel to Taiwan.
