The World League for Freedom and Democracy (WLFD) R.O.C. Chapter will host the event, with the WLFD's president, Yao Eng-chi (饒穎奇), convening. Over 300 politicians from 30 countries and representatives from the WLFD's international chapters will also attend the celebration.
The World Freedom Day Celebration is an annual event that takes place every Jan. 23. The celebration, which this year is themed on “Consolidation of Democracy: Challenges and Prospects,” aims to exchange opinions and perspectives as part of consolidating a movement toward freedom and democracy.
The goal of the WLFD is to promote and support the ideas of freedom, democracy, and world peace.
The WLFD, a nongovernmental organization, has been working hard to assist many countries to develop toward freedom and democracy. In December 2005, the WLFD founded a Nepal Chapter during its Civil War period. In August 2009, the WLFD founded Laos and Macau Chapters.
The WLFD is descended from the Asian Pacific Anti-Communist League, which was established in 1954 under the joint sponsorship of the Presidents of the Republic of China, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of the Philippines. The WLFD now has members from more than 100 hundred countries, international organizations and associate members.
