Magnitude-4.8 earthquake jolts Northeastern Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Northeastern Taiwan at 4:30 p.m. yesterday, but no casualties were immediately reported.

The earthquake's epicenter was located beneath the seabed some 33 km south of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 5.2 km, the Central Weather Bureau said.

The strongest tremor, with an intensity of 5, was felt in the county's Nanao Township.
