TRA rolls out extra holiday service, discountsThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA, 台鐵) is rolling out extra services and ticket discounts for Chinese New Year.
January 16, 2013, 12:00 am TWN To ease congestion over the holiday season, the TRA is set to run 604 additional trains from Feb. 7 to 18. Discounts are also available on select routes, such as Taipei to Hualien for NT$200; Taipei to Taitung for NT$350; and Taipei to Yilan for NT$100. Take the night train between Shulin (樹林) and Hualien and save 30 percent, said TRA's Peng Kun-yan (彭坤炎) yesterday. Tickets for TRA's eastern and western rail lines may be booked online or by telephone starting midnight Jan. 23. Also during the holiday season, the TRA will debut its most recent purchase — a TEMU2000 train. The TEMU2000 will run trips between Shulin and Hualien starting Feb. 6, said Peng.
