Mercury to drop below 7 degrees: CWBThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Temperatures in coastal areas are expected to dip below 7 degrees Celsius following the arrival of a cold front, said the Central Weather Bureau (CWB, 中央氣象局) yesterday.
January 16, 2013, 12:00 am TWN The CWB said that the current cold front is highly potent and will bring temperatures to their lowest on Jan. 17 and 18, with the effected area to span from Chiayi to Yilan. The bureau forecast lows of 9 to 10 C in the plains areas and of 7 to 9 C for coastal regions. Due to the lack of precipitation, the strength of the cold front will persist well into Jan. 19. Low Temperatures Reported Yesterday Morning Temperatures dropped throughout Taiwan yesterday morning. In Tainan, Yilan and Hualien, temperatures reached lows of between 10 and 12 C, with Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Taitung reaching lows of 15 to 19 C. Chiayi recorded the lowest temperature at 9.3 C. Throughout the regions, the effects of the cold front waned as the day progressed and clouds dispersed. The CWB urged the public to take heed of the coming night and day temperature fluctuations which may be as much as 10 degrees C.
