Taiwan working to solve flood problems: ministerCNA TAIPEI--Taiwan will formulate plans to complement its amended urban planning law in an effort to deal with flooding problems that could result from climate change, Interior Minister Lee Hong-yuan said Tuesday.
January 16, 2013, 12:00 am TWN The strategy will include implementing proper urban planning and improving the country's drainage system, Lee said on the sidelines of a conference on climate change. In light of the higher chances of extreme weather events brought about by global climate change, Taiwan should take flood prevention measures such as building permeable roads, he said. This will allow the water from heavy rainfall to soak away quickly through the roads instead of relying entirely on drains, he explained.
