Tainan has record number of black-faced spoonbillsCNA TAIPEI--Tainan recorded its highest-ever yearly number of black-faced spoonbills wintering there, according to the results of an annual global census released Sunday.
January 14, 2013, 12:01 am TWN A total of 1,533 of the highly endangered migratory birds were recorded in the southern Taiwan area this year, the results of a two-day census show. Tainan is the world's most important wintering site for the birds, accounting for about half of them. The annual census, arranged by the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society since 2003, is conducted every January in places including Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand.
