New air routes opened to Macau, Japan's Niigata cityCNA TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Two air routes opened Saturday to provide flight services between Taiwan and the Japanese city of Niigata and between Taichung and Macau.
January 13, 2013, 12:02 am TWN EVA Airways launched its first regular flight from Taipei to Niigata, the capital city of Niigata Prefecture on the Japan Sea, at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The new service, which will offer two flights per week, will be an alternative option for Taiwanese people visiting Japan, in addition to services between Taiwan and Tokyo, the country's second-largest airline said. The route will also be convenient for people in central Japan's Kanto, Koshinetsu and Hokuriku regions who wish to travel to Taiwan, the company said. Meanwhile, Taipei-based TransAsia Airways began offering flights between Taichung in central Taiwan and Macau. The new service will provide one flight per day, according to the company. Thanks to the new air route, the carrier, which mainly serves the domestic market but also provides limited air services to China, East Asia and Southeast Asia, now operates flights to Macau from three major cities in northern, central and southern Taiwan, respectively — Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung.
