Lottery announces extra NT$100 million Chinese New Year red envelopeThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- To celebrate the arrival of 2013, the Year of the Snake, the Taiwan Lottery Company announced the Chinese New Year Big Red Envelope event that will take place over the upcoming holidays.
January 13, 2013, 12:02 am TWN The Big Red Envelope event will feature an unprecedented extra drawing of the NT$100 million top prize for The Big Lotto on Feb. 9, 10 and 11, in addition to 100 extra drawings of the NT$1 million prize. Previously, the Big Lotto drawings were only available on Tuesdays and Fridays. Also, The Big Lotto will have an additional NT$10 million added to the top prize on the drawing dates of Feb. 8, 12 and 15. For the two-week period from Feb. 8 to 21, the Taiwan Lottery Company will launch a variety of extra game modes for the BINGO BINGO lottery with bonus prizes totaling over NT$700 million. In a press conference on Jan. 9, Taiwan Lottery Company Chairman Xue Xian-chuan said that lottery revenues reached an unprecedented high of NT$109.547 billion, representing a growth of 20 percent from 2011's NT$91.2 billion; of which NT$74.282 billion are from sales of computer-drawn lottery games while NT$352.65 billion are from sales of immediate payoff lottery tickets. For the convenience of lottery participants, the drawing of the lottery will be broadcast live on channel 58 on USTV (非凡新聞台), from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Feb. 9, 10 and 11. The winning numbers will be posted on the official website at 2 a.m. on the following day. Winners of prizes NT$2,000 and below may redeem them at 7 a.m. next day at all lottery outlets. Winners of prizes exceeding NT$2,000 may redeem their prizes on the next business day at any Chinatrust branch locations or authorized lottery outlets. The Taiwan Lottery Company is an organization which prides itself on charitable giving, allocating 40 percent of proceeds to charity. In addition, the company provides assistance for numerous lottery winners to donate prize proceeds to charity organizations of their choice. To date over NT$2.3 billion has been donated by lucky winners and has helped over 2.15 million individuals in need. The company encourages the public to try their luck while helping those in need.
