10,000 people sign nuclear supervision petition: MLTThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hundreds of mothers have formed an organization called “Mom Loves Taiwan” (MLT; 媽媽監督核電廠聯盟) to monitor the safety concerns of Taiwan's nuclear plants, said a convener of the MLT in Taipei, yesterday.
January 11, 2013, 12:18 am TWN Well over 10,000 people have signed the organization's petition, including famous entertainer Momoko Tao (陶晶瑩), producer Lee Lieh (李烈) and anchorwoman Georgina Fang (方念華), said Irine Chen (陳藹玲), board director of Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation. The MLT expects the number of supporters will reach more than 100,000 by the end of March, Chen added. Chen said the low-level radioactive waste of the nation's nuclear facilities is currently stored on Lanyu Island, while high-level nuclear waste remains at the power plants. If there are any problems with (the transfer or storage) of the nuclear material, the negative consequences would be beyond imagination, said Chen.
