Chen Shui-bian's hand tremors are not caused by Parkinson's: hospitalCNA TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taipei Veterans General Hospital has conducted a series of examinations of former President Chen Shui-bian and has ruled out Parkinson's disease as the cause of hand tremors from which he is suffering, the hospital said yesterday.
January 11, 2013, 12:18 am TWN The hospital recommended that Chen be given medication and follow-up examinations on a regular basis. Chen, who is serving an 18.5-year prison term for corruption, has stayed at the hospital since Sept. 21 due to various health complaints, including severe depression, benign enlargement of the prostate and urinary tract and prostate infections. He was recently seen to have obvious tremors of his right hand, the hospital said. In addition to neurological examinations, Chen was given a tremorgram, head MRI and nuclear medicine imaging, it said. The results show that he has not suffered from a stroke or Parkinson's disease, according to the hospital. |
