Gov't sets up e-centers to bridge urban & rural gapCNA TAIPEI--The Ministry of Education said Sunday that it has been establishing digital opportunity centers in remote towns in Taiwan to promote e-books and that it will demonstrate online the achievement of closing the gaps between urban and rural areas.
January 7, 2013, 12:00 am TWN The digital centers in remote towns integrate each town's unique characteristics into the production of multimedia, including class materials, digital stories, and tourism guides, according to the ministry. Following the establishment of the digital centers, many remote areas have produced e-books, the ministry said. Pingtung County, for example, has completed 200 e-books with content ranging from the Hakka language to Taiwanese proverbs and indigenous fables. The ministry noted that a page on a website that was set up to promote the digital centers will be dedicated to featuring e-learning achievements in remote towns.
