Taipei City reports nearly 30,000 layoffs for last yearCNA TAIPEI--Nearly 30,000 workers in Taipei City were laid off last year due to the economic downturn, the city's Department of Labor reported Saturday.
January 6, 2013, 12:01 am TWN The number of layoffs in the city was 17.13 percent higher than in the previous year, rising from 25,119 to 29,423, according to data published by the department. Meanwhile, 95 workers in the city were asked to cut back their working hours in December last year, compared with 15 the previous month, data shows. Also in December, 827 employees from four companies in Taipei were let go, which was the most significant layoff that month and an increase from 482 workers the previous month, the figures show.
