Lawmaker Chiu Yi-ying hosts wedding banquetThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Deputy Kaohsiung Mayor Lee Yung-te and his wife, lawmaker Chiu Yi-ying of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), yesterday held a belated wedding banquet at Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Kaohsiung, with most key DPP figures attending as VIP guests.
January 6, 2013, 12:01 am TWN Lee and Chiu had registered their marriage in April 2011, but their wedding banquet was put off until yesterday, partly because Chiu was busy with elections. Among the 1,000 guests at the party were DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang, ex-Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen, as well as lawmakers, heads of local governments, as well as county and city councilors of the opposition party. Lee and Chiu began their relationship while serving as minister and vice minister, respectively, of the Council for Hakka Affairs in 2005. In May 2012, Chiu completed six rounds of chemotherapy for cancer, leading to hair loss. She stressed at the banquet that she was able to tide the worst time of her life because of Lee. To which Lee responded, “In my life, I can't do without you.”
