Interior Ministry says political parties on the rise in countryThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ministry of Interior (MOI, 內政部) yesterday announced that there are a total of 224 registered political parties in Taiwan, up by 15 from last year.
December 30, 2012, 12:11 am TWN The organization and activities of civic associations are classified by law into three categories: political, professional and social. According to the MOI, as of June this year, there are 49,983 chartered civic associations, representing an increase of 1,085 or 2.2 percent from last year, while social civic associations saw the most annual growth, increasing by an average of 1,854 associations per year since 2002. There are 38,990 social civic associations, 10,726 professional civic associations and 267 political civil associations. MOI stated that within the group of social civic associations, 12,232 are classified as social services and charitable organizations, representing 31.4 percent of the category, while a total of 5,108 unions represented 47.6 percent of professional civic associations. Within the category of political civic associations, 224 political parties represented 83.9 percent of political civic associations.
