In Taipei, revelers can attend a city-sponsored countdown party that will feature performances by pop diva Chang Hui-mei, singer and TV host Harlem Yu and Aaron Kwok from Hong Kong.
The highlight, as usual, will be the annual fireworks extravaganza at Taipei 101, with this year's 188-second show being broadcast live around the world via five international satellites.
In Taoyuan, the celebration will start at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, the earliest start for any of the country's festivities.
Actors in Doraemon costumes and Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu will perform on stage while the countdown finale will feature Rainie Yang, a youth idol in Northern Taiwan.
The featured show in Central Taiwan will be Taichung's star-studded countdown party. Celebrities such as Taiwan-based Chinese singer Della Wu, better known as “Ding Dang,” and the popular girl group S.H.E will celebrate New Year's Eve with fans at a party organized by the Taichung government.
Further south in Kaohsiung, there will be two main events, one at the city's Dream Mall and another at Kaohsiung Stadium.
Rock band Mayday and award winning singer and songwriter David Tao will appear in the Kaohsiung shows during the final New Year's countdown.
Another option in Kaohsiung will be a New Year's package deal offered by E-Da World that includes dinner, a night tour, and then a concert culminating in a fireworks show.
