Telecoms launch New Year offersThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- With the four-day New Year's break starting tomorrow, telecom operators have announced various offers to attract users during this period.
December 28, 2012, 12:47 am TWN Chunghwa Telecom, for example, has set up three of its multimedia platforms, namely Hami TV, MOD Nice TV and Hichannel, to broadcast the New Year countdown party sponsored by the Kaohsiung City Government live. Meanwhile, Chunghwa has equipped its Hami Apps store with software that provides countdown information and traffic updates. The operator has also launched a raffle draw that is open to users who send five text messages over the break. Prizes range from the HTC Butterfly phone to Beats headsets. Far EasTone has also announced a campaign allowing mobile users to vote on a variety of issues. Those who cast their votes from now till Jan. 2 will have a chance to win Shin Kong Mitsukoshi vouchers through a draw. The New Year's break will last from tomorrow to the New Year's Day on Tuesday. To allow for a four-day break the government made Saturday, Dec. 22 a workday to make up for the day off on Monday, Dec. 31. On New Year's Eve, there will be about 27 countdown parties throughout the island. To meet the overwhelming data demand during this period, Chunghwa Telecom will devote more of its resources for this purpose this year than it did in 2011. The firm will dispatch 88 mobile base stations and some 200 Wi-Fi routers to provide free Wi-Fi for crowds at these events, it said.
