Motor vehicle theft ring busted: Changhua police

TAIPEI--Changhua police announced yesterday that they have busted a car theft ring, which had sold parts and components removed from the stolen vehicles to the Middle East.

Police said the car theft ring masterminded by a man surnamed Su had targeted small passenger cars and sports utility vehicles of Japanese brands Toyota and Honda.

The stolen vehicles were sent to a factory in New Taipei where they were stripped of useful parts and components.

Police said the ring used cars with forged license plates and GPS jammers when they stole cars to avoid police detection.

The ring also had a fine division of labor within itself, police said, noting that there were people in charge of the theft, the breaking down of the vehicle and the shipment of the removed parts and components to the Middle East.
