Mercury dips to new low for winter season: CWB

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A strong cold air mass sent temperatures across Taiwan plunging yesterday to new lows for the current winter season, but warmer weather is expected from Thursday, the Central Weather Bureau reported.

The lowest temperature recorded across the island was 10.6 degrees Celsius in the Tamsui area in Northern Taiwan early Wednesday. The mercury in the cities of Hsinchu and Keelung dipped as low as 11.5 and 12.1 degrees, respectively, the bureau said.

Much warmer and drier weather is expected island-wide from Thursday to Saturday, when another strong cold air front is expected to hit Taiwan.

According to bureau forecasts, temperatures in the later part of the week should range between 15-25 degrees in Northern Taiwan, 14-24 degrees in Central Taiwan and 15-28 degrees in Southern Taiwan.
