The China Post news staff--A college student suspected of a fatal hit-and-run is restricted from traveling overseas after posting bail, which prosecutors set at NT$500,000 on Saturday.
Chang Kai-wei (張凱惟), 23, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol with a female passenger early Friday.
While passing over a bridge, the suspect rear-ended a small pickup truck, sending its driver through a window and onto an exit ramp. The driver died upon impact, police officials said.
Officers arrested Chang for questioning. After arriving at the bureau, Chang said he felt unwell and received medical treatment, which delayed his transfer to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office until Saturday.
At his court hearing yesterday, prosecutors set Chang's bail at NT$500,000, but ruled to restrict him from traveling outside Taiwan. Chang is a college senior from a well-to-do household, according to prosecutors.
