Taipei offers best quality of life in Taiwan: survey

TAIPEI--Taipei ranked first among Taiwan's 22 cities and counties in terms of the best quality of life, according to a university's survey published esterday. According to the survey conducted by Taoyuan's Kainan University, Taipei placed first in six of 11 indices — income, community, education, environment, governance and health.

Taipei citizens also enjoy the highest life expectancy, averaging 82.7 years.

Hsinchu City ranked the second in the survey, followed by Hsinchu County, Taichung City and New Taipei City.

The survey, the first such assessment to be made by the university, was based on the Your Better Life Index conducted by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The university's assessment aims to enable people to compare well-being based on 11 topics — housing, income, jobs, community, education, environment, governance, health, life satisfaction, safety and work-life balance. Hsinchu City came first in the work-life balance index, while Hsinchu County came top in jobs and life satisfaction.

Hualien County placed first in housing, and Yunlin County came top in safety.
