Site offers deals to mark visa waiver program entry

TAIPEI--Agoda.com, a leading hotel booking site in Asia, said yesterday it is offering special hotel deals in four U.S. cities and two territories to celebrate the inclusion of Taiwan into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.

Taiwanese travelers who use the website to book hotels in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Guam can enjoy discounts of between 20 and 30 percent on room prices, said the company, which is a member of the Priceline Group.

According to a previous report, the number of Taiwanese visitors to the U.S. during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday in February will increase by up to 40 percent as a result of the program.

Under the program, which officially took effect on Nov. 1, Taiwanese travelers to the U.S. no longer have to go through the cumbersome process of applying for a U.S. visa and can save the NT$4,960 (US170.25) fee.

Instead, the travelers simply have to register basic information online and pay a US$14 fee.
